Indian Voice
The Indian music course offers an immersive journey into the sound and experience of Hindustani khayal music. We work on building the voice and tuning into the world of a raag through various compositions, aesthetic approaches and new methods of ear training. The course also provides exposure to musical forms associated with raag sangeet such as qawwali, thumri, tappa and folk music.
The Vocal Circle
The Vocal Circle is a voice ensemble that sings and learns together, exploring a cross-genre repertoire to work on melody, harmony, rhythm and tone. The practice of singing together regularly helps strengthen our ears and harmony sense, but the group also learns to listen and work as an ensemble - a community of musicians who thrive together.
Western Voice
The Western Music course encompasses a wide repertoire of music from jazz and blues to pop and indie-folk, rooted in the wisdom of both classical and contemporary schools of theory. The solo and group classes will guide students to develop vocal technique, enunciation, dynamics and tone through work with breathing, extensive work with vocalisation, articulation and ear-training. The department also offers lessons in songwriting, composition and production aimed towards making music theory and creation more accessible.
