The Instrument and the Voice

Some love stories are eternal and among those, is the romance between the voice and the instrument, which have been intertwined for centuries, even millenia. Throughout the world, singers and instrumentalists are developing close relationships and collaborative research in duos, trios and larger ensembles. For this edition of the Lilanoor newsletter, we touch upon some of these connections, but delve deeper into Western classical music, which is in the spotlight this month at the LCVM. Through articles and interviews, we will discover the universe of a singer's favourite polyphonic instruments/instrumentalists, and how these special relationships have developed in the history of Western Classical Music. We will immerse ourselves in the dynamics between a singer and instrumentalists, the repertoires chosen, and the reason why these friendships, can sometimes last a whole career and a whole lifetime.

Masterclass – Western Classical Singing Technique (27/08/22, Sat – 28/08/22, Sun)

Singing is a long-life journey to understand the mystery of the voice and the mechanisms of the body and its singing potential. It is about finding the centre, the core of the voice that like an atom, will radiate. Western Classical Singing Technique in particular is built on endless research and studies of methodologies for singers to develop a technique that allows them to comfortably perform in huge concert halls with thousands of people, without any amplification. A weekend where we will try to observe and understand basic mechanisms of Western Classical voice technique practice and theory, through both group and private sessions.
